BKO Orienteering on Celebrity Fit Club (ITV)

Posted in

Liz Turbin and I arranged for the TV programme Celebrity Keep Fit Club to do an orienteering exercise at Dinton Pastures on Sunday.

Filming went OK . The course was planned by me and Liz Turbin. BKO supplied maps and Emit equipment. Denise Harper came down on the day and gave us a very welcome hand and took lots of pictures.

The event as you will see is not orienteering as we know it. The TV producers wanted to maintain 2 teams with one map and one compass and one emit card per team. In addition the emit stake was not at the control site.

Message from the SCOA Secretary :-

Meridian TV are intending to cover the Military League Event at Greenham Common on Wednesday 18th January. This event is the first use of the new Greenham Common map and the event incorporates the resurrected Map Makers Challenge competition.

Meridian's plans are for a reporter to run one of the courses, a live broadcast during their lunchtime local news program and further coverage during their evening local news broadcasts. In addition, we anticipate that they will be placing information on their website linking to the clubs in the Region.

Transmission is scheduled to be included within the local news programmes at 1300 and 1800 on Wednesday 18th. Don't forget to set your video recorders!

Yvette Baker Trophy Final - 4th December 2005

The BKO Team at the Yvette Baker Trophy

Well done to all of the Juniors who took part in the Yvette Baker Trophy Final at Sherwood Pines in the East Midlands today.

This is the first time that the club has entered the Yvette Baker Trophy. We didn't win and we had the smallest team, but the enthusiasm was high and the juniors had some good runs.

In a year's time, we want to qualify for the final again and to do much, much better, so we all need to get some more training and experience...

More photos on Monday.

As many of the members will know, our juniors have qualified for the Yvette Baker Trophy on Sunday 4th December. This is being run by Nottingham OC in Sherwood Forest.

I have already invited those who qualified to come and take part. However, if there are any other juniors who would like to run for the club at the event (we need lots of juniors, even if you don't think that you're that good), please can you let me know. Accommodation, transport and training for the weekend is available via the SCOA Junior Squad.
