Latest news - Friday 28th September, 6.00pm

Although we have seen some late entries this week, we still have a few spare places available on all courses. We are however down to 7 on Course 2 and 9 on Course 4, slightly more on other courses.  You might also like to note that early start times have been most popular so there might be some short queues in the early start block (10.30 – 11.00) but no blocks are yet full. As stated in the final details, we are not allocating start times.  Fabian4 entries are open until midnight tonight.  After that please e-mail Windsor@bko.org.uk to confirm whether there is still availability and to reserve a map.

Event Centre:

Windsor Leisure Centre,

Clewer Mead, Stovell Road, Windsor  SL4 5JB  Grid Reference SU958773

Travel:

The Leisure Centre is just off the A332, 2 Km south from Junction 6 of the M4. Parking in the Pay and Display car park adjacent to the Leisure Centre is expensive(up to 3hrs, £2.20; then prices rise significantly!). However, parking in the nearby Alexandra Gardens Car Park is more reasonable (£1 per hour for up to 6 hours) and is signposted from the main road into Windsor from the A322. Note that all the parking in Windsor gets very busy on weekends during the tourist season (most of the year here!).

See http://www.rbwm.gov.uk/web/parking_windsor_area.htm for full details of all parking around Windsor.

Travel by train is recommended: Windsor is served by two branch lines. Trains arriving at Windsor and Eton Central (approx 600m from the Leisure Centre) come from the Great Western line at Slough; trains arriving at Windsor and Eton Riverside (approx 1 Km from the Leisure Centre) come from the Southern region network via Staines.  Competitors will be permitted to walk direct from the stations to the event centre.

Please note that the charity Round London Cycle Event is also taking place this day, with one of its starts in Alexandra Gardens, not far from the Leisure Centre. We suspect that this may generate a significant amount of extra parking traffic (and use of public transport) so please be suitably prepared.

Start Times

10.30 – 12.30, Courses close 2.00

Terrain

The full A3 map will span both sides of the River Thames.  To the North there are areas of common land, playing fields and the older parts of Eton.  The River Thames will be crossed using the main Windsor Bridge, now only used by pedestrians.  To the South, there is the main central area of Windsor town centre which will take competitors to the walls of Windsor Castle.  Typical urban terrain can be anticipated including pedestrian areas, residential streets and a variety of parks. Courses 6 and 7 will have an A4 map, centred on the River Thames, showing the areas for their courses.

Note that neither the private areas of Eton College nor the grounds of Windsor Castle are included in the event.
