Everyone, it was a very impressive day’s orienteering today, topped with results and Routegadget posted by 6 pm, and Ranking Points available on the BO website by early evening, so well done to all the organising team. This has forced me to move fast to calculate the PPS scores, made more complex by the many new BKO member runners on the day. We had 55 ranking scorers overall, our largest ever total, including five who had no previous ranking scores at all. This was a great turnout.
I thought the forest was lovely, a mixture of perfect clean running in north Yateley and Minley, and some really rough running as a contrast in south Yateley. Andrew’s courses made great use of the terrain, and kept us thinking. There were some very good performances. James Hargreaves gained a superb 3rd on Black, Martin Wilson was 3rd and Simon Moore 7th on Short Blue, and Nigel Jeffries was 2nd on Short Green. In addition, Benjamin Gardner gained a close 2nd place on Yellow. This all bodes well for our club for the CompassSport Cup next month!
And so to the Hot Rod Awards, well earned today with such a large club entry. Today’s winners are:
|
Hot ROD Awards |
Seniors |
Improvers |
|
GOLD Award |
Sue Parker 101.7% |
Brian Burt 116.8% |
|
SILVER Award |
James Hargreaves 100.5% |
Lisa Methven 112.7% |
|
Bronze Award |
Nigel Jefferies 100.0% |
Eric Harper 112.6% |
James H is really hitting some fine form, equalling his success of last week. Sue Parker seems to have broken through from her previous steady level. The Improvers scores are not top-sliced, and some large scores are to be expected, so well done to the leaders in that class.
I attach the PPS workbook as usual, with the two sheets, today’s results of those who ran, and the complete season of results. For the first time, Starters are included as a separate category, together with their yardstick rankings, set by age group (a note at the bottom of the sheet explains this working). Special mention should go to Simon Moore for his superb 1036 points today, at only his second ranking event. I hope this section will give early visibility of newcomers to the PPS scheme, though their first three results will not count towards League averages. I hope this inclusion will also encourage newcomers to try more ranking events. Lastly, you’ll notice that I’ve awarded scores of 95% to the Organiser and Planner, who obviously were not able to compete. This was always the intention within the scheme.
So, a good day all round. We now move on to the other ‘big one’, the CompassSport Cup qualifying round at the TVOC event on the 19th February. We need as many members as we can muster to make a much bigger impact than in previous years, and we now have the quality as well as the quantity to do well. I hope we will see you all there on the day!
