19 August: BKO Update

Is summer over? It is mid-August and it’s cool and wet – I hope you have been able to enjoy some sunny and warm weather and perhaps there is still some more to come.  Those members who travelled to Scotland for the Scottish 6 Day event managed to have mostly fine but cool weather and were able to tackle some challenging terrain – quite different from that found around here.  Full reports and photos will be in the next Newsletter.

BKO Events

Saturday 26th September – Winter Series & Youth League Event

The first BKO event of the new season is our Yateley Country Park event just along the A30 to the west of Camberley.  You should have seen a recent e-mail from Fiona seeking a planner for this event and I am uncertain whether anyone has come forward to take this on.  Please watch the website for further information but there will be more information in the next Update.

Other Clubs Events

Monday 31st August - Urban Event - Rutherford Appleton Laboratory,   Didcot

This TVOC event is another in the South of England Orienteering Urban League (SEOUL) and is on Bank Holiday Monday.  The area has complex campus-style terrain and will provide significant challenges when taken at speed.  Pre-entries close this Sunday, 23rd August.  For details see: http://www.tvoc.org.uk/application/documents/events/2015%20events/RAL2015.pdf

Saturday 5th September – Burnham Beeches

This event is quite local being just to the north of Slough.  Note however that the event has a competitor limit of 120 people and pre-entry is required to ensure that this limit is not exceeded – despite this it is still a ‘Level C’ event.  The current entry list is showing 52 entries (including 2 from BKO) so there is still time but don’t leave it too long if you want to run through this famous beech wood.  For further details see: http://www.happyherts.org.uk/events/event/burnham-beeches/

Newsletter

The September Newsletter is in preparation but, due to holidays, the copy date is not until 31st August.  However please ensure that all material is submitted by then so that I can put it together rapidly on my return.  Any submission is welcome however small (or long).
