Find Your Way Taster Event

Come along to our free orienteering taster at Prospect Park on Sunday October 29th at 1pm-4pm! It's fun for the whole family. The event is joining up with the Beat the Street game and there will be nature wellbeing activities by Nature Nurture and Sport in Mind (1pm-4pm).

You will find us to the left of the Ranger Station, just downhill from the main car park in Prospect Park (entry from Liebenrood Road). Start on orienteering courses between 1pm-2.30pm (last return at 4pm).

There will be 3 courses: long and medium length courses and also a short course suitable for buggies (although it is on grass and paths). Arrive any time from 12:30 and our team will be there to explain what to do and help you to start. Expect to take up to an hour on a course. Printed maps are provided for everyone taking part.

For those of you taking part in the Beat the Street game - Reading West - there will be an extra Beat Box to get double points from and great prizes up for grabs too! Those who complete the orienteering routes that fastest will win a £25 voucher! During the event, we are having a selfie competition! With a chance to win your very own Beattie. Take a selfie at our event and upload it to Facebook or Twitter and tag us @BTSWestReading

Download the free app MapRun at home to have the best experience when taking part in the orienteering activity. Once you have the app, fill in some simple details about yourself, select 'Events Near Me', choose 'FYW' and download the Prospect Park courses that you would like to do. When you are in the park and ready to start, just click 'Go to Start' - you're good to go!

The Find Your Way website has an excellent "How To Guide" to help you get started with MapRun and how to use it on the course. Find Your Way is a project run by British Orienteering.

You can take part in the Orienteering activity without using the free MapRun app, but we recommend that you do use it. You can download the orienteering maps in advance, meaning you will not need to use mobile data at the event, except when you finish the course and briefly upload your finish time.
