Two successes to report this week. The 2016 National UK Urban League competition came to its conclusion last weekend with races at Oxford on Saturday and Norwich on Sunday. Congratulations to Martin Wilson who has become champion in the Men’s Ultra Vets category. There were also excellent performances in the final results from Fiona Clough (4th in Veteran Women) and Denise Harper (4th in Women’s Ultra Vets). The other success to report is that the children of St Andrew’s School Championships took first place in the Middle-Preparatory class at the 2016 British Schools Orienteering. This returns them to the top place after being pushed down to second last year. Congratulations to all the children who took part in the event.

Saturday 3 December 2016 - Winter Series & Youth League Event
We are just about 10 days away from our next Saturday event being staged at Bucklebury Common. This will have courses for White, Yellow, Orange, Light Green and Short Blue. Entries on the day only with registration from 10:00am - 11:00am and starts from 10:30am - 11:30am. For more details, see: Bucklebury Common Event.
Note that Eoin Sharkey is the Organiser for this event and is seeking helpers. In particular he has asked for the following: helpers for setup, car-parking and registration (early), people for the start (early and late slots) and helpers for clearance including at least 2 control collectors (late). All helpers should be able to run a course, and get a discounted entry. Please reply to Eoin indicating preference, and special skills (e.g. setting up the Start Clock!)
Sunday 4 December - Club Championships 2016
A reminder that the Championship will be based on the results of the Southampton OC’s regional event, SCOL4, at Ashurst Wood / Matley in the New Forest on Sunday 4th December. To compete in the Championship, men should enter the Blue course, Women the Green course and Juniors the Orange course. Pre-entries are open although SOC have indicated that there should be plenty of maps available for on the day entry. Final details are now available on the SOC site, see: SCOL4 Ashurst Wood
Other Clubs’ Events
Saturday 26 November 2016 – TVOC Saturday Event – Black Park, Slough
This Saturday sees the TVOC club’s Saturday series using Black Park just to the north of Slough. TVOC are expecting quite a large turnout with possibly quite a number of newcomers. If any BKO members can offer support, TVOC would be pleased. It might also be an opportunity to promote BKO for any newcomers who may live within Berkshire. For more details, see TVOC - Black Park Details.
Sunday 11 December – SN Trophy – SCOA Regional Championships
This is a major Level B event being staged at Long Valley North between Aldershot and Fleet. It is being used to determine the 2016 SCOA Regional Champions across all age classes. To compete in the Championships, members must pre-enter in their appropriate age class (or ‘run up’). Entries are now being accepted on Fabian4. For details see: SN Trophy Details.
Request for Organisers for 2017 Events
The club needs some more offers of help for us to stage our forthcoming events. As Fixtures Secretary, Fiona is looking for Organisers for the following:
- Saturday 18th Feb 2017 - Swinley East - Level D
- Sunday 12th March 2017 - Cold Ash - the Compass Sport Cup Heat – This is particularly important as it is a significant event with a larger than normal attendance expected
- Sunday 21st May 2017 - Black Park - level C SCOA league event.
Please offer to take on one of these roles son that the club can fulfil its commitment to members and the region. Note however that for 2017 there is an expectation that event organisers will have attended an Event Safety Workshop. Please contact Fiona with your offers of help.
