Control Descriptions

  • Orange to Brown courses will have pictorial descriptions printed on the map.
  • White and Yellow courses will have text descriptions printed on the map.
  • Loose pictorial control descriptions on waterproof paper will be available in the start lanes for all courses.

Terrain

Mixed, mainly deciduous, woodland with generally good runnability except where forest thinning has taken place in the last couple of years which has resulted in localised patches of brashings and brambles.  The area has several gently sloping hills and a fairly extensive path network.

Forestry thinning operations were continuing in the south west of the area as the maps went to print and this may affect Blue to Brown courses.

The green-striped ‘slow run undergrowth’ screen has been used where brashings from forestry work affect runnability as well as for bramble patches.  Forestry extraction lanes are mapped as rides where significant, but not all may have been mapped.  Wherever possible, courses have been designed to avoid the worst of the brashings.  The forestry operations have also churned up some of the main tracks and rides.

The original map included many rootstocks. Some have decayed and either resemble
knolls or are barely discernible. Other new ones have been created. We have amended the map suitably around control sites, and those that are used as control features are clear,
but it would be unwise to rely on rootstocks for
navigation.

Some large depressions are now full of water; many of the wide rides are very muddy and slow. In general, the forest and small paths offer better running than larger paths and rides. Wellies would be a good idea for those walking round the white and yellow courses.

Additional safety warning/information

The longer courses (Veteran Short Green to Brown) cross minor roads – Take care - there will be no manned crossings

(Junior CSC courses, and White and Yellow EOD do NOT cross any roads)

Start

The same start is used by all courses. It is 500m from Assembly – leave the field via the stile in the South-East corner of the field

The event uses EMIT electronic timing with a punching start

Pre-entered competitors with their own EMIT cards can go directly to the start. Hire EMIT cards (and back up cards) can be collected from the Enquiries/EMIT Hire tent.

Start times 10:25 to 12:30.

Start Times will be adhered to - Make sure that you arrive at least 5 minutes before your start time

Warning:  Some courses are fairly full.  As we have to keep a minimum of 4 minutes between start times for members of the same club, so if you are late for start time, you may have to wait until 12:30 before you get your run.

Loose control descriptions will be available in the Start lanes.

When you start, place your EMIT card flat on the start control and check that the light flashes

Finish

The run-in and Finish are in the assembly field.

Please remember to download AS SOON AS YOU FINISH  at the Download/Results tent

Water and Orange Squash will be available near to download.

Course Close

Courses closes at 2.30
